Ballina, 29.8.08

Ballina (Near Byron Bay), Friday 29th of August
Second night at this very beautiful town. We promised the kids that once in a while we’ll stay 2 nights at a camping that they like. This is a camping that they like... It mostly has to do with the “Jumping Pillow”, the playground and a toaster in the kitchen for Ido. Oh, and the swimming pool, but swimming at this weather is not appealing. To adults.
After the Gold Coast experience (and let me make it clear – we only went there for the kids, because we’re great parents!!!) we drove west, inland to Springbrook National Park. Kids didn’t want to walk so Amit and myself walked by ourselves while the kids remained in the car. We even had time to see (this time with the kids) few lookouts, including one called “best of all lookout” which was indeed the best. You could see the valley, the forest, the waterfall, and even the Gold Coast. However, for the first time visibility was not that good.
This was the last point we visited in Queensland. We then moved to New South Wales.
Yesterday we drove to Byron Bay, a very beautiful and romantic town with an amazing beach. We took a walk on the beach and watched the surfers. We felt sorry for them for entering the water in such weather. The water is always frozen and on that day so was the air…However, we were also impressed and thought that it looks so much fun to surf that on our way back to OZ (after NZ) we’ll take a short course in Sydney (OK, not including Shira). By this time it will be summer.
Amit then took a walk to the lighthouse and I stayed with the kids (who were surprisingly too lazy to walk with Amit) on the beach …
Ballina, the town we’re at now is soooooooo beautiful. It is on the coast just like Byron Bay. There is a very impressive river that is crossing the town before it gets to the sea, and many lakes around. This afternoon we rented bicycles and biked along the beach and the river for a couple of hours. Even Ophir enjoyed the sportive activity.

If anyone wonders how is it to spend so much time together with your family - every few days we have a family discussion that has to do with our expectations, disappointments, and the rest of the thingimablaber (as the kids say). Either we’re not happy with the kids’ behavior, or the kids are not happy with our behavior. Today we had another one. Kids were claiming that we don’t do enough things for them and that we have to go more often to theme parks such as the water park in Gold Coast. In addition they said that Amit and I are too much into nature stuff. My conclusion was that we have to do less for the kids ;-) any parent knows how ungrateful kids are - so why bother… But of course it always ends in good spirit, many promises and decisions how to make ourselves happier together. And we are happy together, just that it is definitely not easy and the first time we spend 24 hours for so long together. Not easy at all!
We’re all excited about going to NZ next Friday. We’re a little sad to leave OZ because there are so many things to see here and we didn’t have time for that, but still… Besides, kids are waiting to meet our home caravan. It will be quite different from Carl - much more spacious and less hassle to set the car for sleep. We’ll see.
Shabat Shalom

Hi Talia and family!
I agree with you Talia. You should force the kids to go walking with you in nature. They will learn to like it or pass out trying. :-P and the best part is you can blame it on me and say it was my idea. NTU is much quieter without you.....no, that's not all a good thing! I hope to read about your adventures in NZ soon. Try a kiwi fresh from the vine, if that's how they grow. I'm waiting for your photos to find out.
